pARTicipate pARTies feature YOU as both artist and patron.
These large-scale multi media art/music gatherings
showcase an art project every guest is encouraged to contribute to in their own way. It's entirely
voluntary, and you need no artistic skills beyond enthusiasm. We provide a theme and all necessary art supplies and let you run wild.
The pieces you create are collected and transformed off-site into a dynamic installation which will be displayed and auctioned off
for charity at the next pARTicipate event...where we encourage you to come and see what the fruits of your creative labors have become.
pARTicipate grew organically from years of friendship and artistic collaboration between Jim Shissler (DJ Shissla) and myself. Since 2001, Shissla
and I have thrown ART pARTies all over the globe (SF, Brussels, Paris, Miami, LA) annointing spaces with sound,
spirits and artwork. We called these stuART pARTies, since they started with a small group of paintings in my Potrero Hill
living room and it sounded cute. The San Francisco Bay Guardian referred to these cozy events as a "collective search for meaning."
Now, these events have grown up, serving to:
+allow each of us to be creative for a night
+expose affordable work from emerging artists to collectors
+raise thousands of dollars for youth art and literacy programs
+introduce new music from top local talent
+build hopeful community among like-minded folks
