When I was a young stockbroker, a mysterious man walked into my office, asked to see someone about investing and immediately began tossing around big numbers like a robber baron. I could not tell if he was blowing smoke, but I had a generally bad feeling about him. Needing some basic info to proceed, I asked him his profession, to which he barked, “I’ll ask the questions around here.” That man was an asshole.
He also became my biggest client. However, though he owned a good percentage of a South American country, he never stopped being a mean and rude troll. I never understood how someone so “successful” could be so miserable.

My art career is ON FIRE right now. I say this with all humility simply because it is true. And I wish to share with you a precious moment in a long and winding journey. No one is more surprised than I.
Unlike my former client, I could not be more giggly about recent events because, for the better part of fifteen years, try as I might, the world did not seem that interested. Now, galleries are calling me, and paintings are selling while they’re still wet. It’s all quite delightful. But I’m old enough to realize this could all end tomorrow. Well … probably not tomorrow, because I have shows stacked up through December. But, you know what I mean.
